Gannett Company Inc. awards JAX True BlueTM $5,000 grant for ‘Make A Difference Day’ True Blue: Navy Families Benefactors, Inc. (JAX True BlueTM) has been awarded a $5,000 grant from Gannett Company Inc., for ‘Make A Difference Day’, and will be partnering with First Coast News in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Naval Station Mayport in support of the Lake Wonderwood Project.

‘Make A Difference Day’ is the nation’s largest day of volunteering. For more than 20 years, Gannett’s USA WEEKEND Magazine has mobilized millions of people across the U.S. for this national day of doing good to help change the communities in which they live. This year Gannett’s Jacksonville Florida television news organization ‘First Coast News’ is teaming up with True Blue: Navy Families Benefactors, Inc. in support of its Lake Wonderwood Project. In addition to Gannett’s $5,000 grant for the project, First Coast News will provide staff volunteers to help clear the brush around Lake http://www.gannett.comWonderwood in preparation for construction of a recreational development project.

The JAX True BlueTM project, approved by the Secretary of the Navy, Mr. Ray Mabus, will include a continuous pathway around the 22-‐acre lake and pavilions with children’s playgrounds, picnic areas, grill areas, and fitness stations. These improvements will bring countless hours of enjoyment and recreational opportunities for sailors and their families for years and generations to come. First Coast News President and General Manager, Eric Land says “We are proud to join together with True Blue: Navy Families Benefactors, Inc. in support of the Lake Wonderwood Project at Naval Station Mayport on ‘Make A Difference Day’ to change the lives of others in a meaningful way on the nation’s largest day of volunteerism.” Land adds “Every day, First Coast News and all of Gannett are committed to serving the greater good of our nation and the more than 100 communities we serve, including our communities here on the First Coast. It is our purpose.” Volunteers from CSX Corporation, and residents of the Naval Station Mayport community will also be part off this ‘Make A Difference Day’ at Lake Wonderwood. Volunteer efforts will be followed by a Fall Festival to celebrate this tremendous effort.
